ECU test and validation hardware

ValidativeHIL

A small test unit for automotive ECUs. One Ethernet cable connects it to your laptop. Wires connect it to the ECU under test. It runs the test on its own, and saves every result.

Compact bench unit

It sits on your desk. It needs one cable and a bench supply.

Networks

CAN FD, LIN and Ethernet

Reach the ECU on the same buses a car uses.

Fault injection

Faults on real lines

Cut a line, or short it to ground or battery. On real wires.

Safe states

Defined power-on behaviour

Nothing is live at power-up. One button clears all faults.

01  /  Overview

What is Validative HIL?

Description

Validative HIL tests ECU software on a bench. It sits between the engineer’s laptop and the ECU.

A test is written on the laptop and sent over Ethernet. The unit is then wired to the ECU. The test runs without the laptop. Results are saved on the unit.

One unit covers all of it. Vehicle networks, serial lines, fault injection, analog and digital signals, supply switching and current measurement.

Used for

  • Diagnostic and fault-code testing
  • Sleep current checks
  • Power cycling and ignition sequences
  • Sensor fault handling and limp-home mode
  • CAN error handling and bus recovery
  • Regression tests before a rig is free

Key benefits

  • One unit per engineer, not one rig per team
  • Real electrical faults, on real wires
  • Sleep current and full load, on one connection
  • Every run is saved on the unit
  • One button clears all faults

    03  /  Fault injection

    Controlled faults on live signals

Some faults are unsafe to test in a car. On a bench they are safe. Click a fault to see what it does.

    Open circuitFault lines
EffectThe signal line is opened. The ECU sees a broken wire.
It answersDoes the ECU notice the lost sensor, and fall back safely?
Safe stateThe line stays connected until the test opens it.
Every fault clears on reset, and on the disable button
    Dedicated fault disable

A button on the unit clears all faults. It works even if the software has stopped.

    Defined power-on state

At power-up the ECU is off and every fault is off. Nothing changes until a test asks.

    Safe state on reset

If the unit restarts during a test, every output goes back to safe.

    Excluded by design

We do not offer short to battery on CAN. It can damage the bus driver, and proves little.

    04  /  With Studio

    Used with Validative Studio

The unit is a target in Validative Studio, alongside simulation and shared benches.

    At the desk

    Available at every desk

A shared rig has to be booked. A desk unit is always free.

    • Write a test, send it over Ethernet, run it
    • Faults, power cycling and current measurement in one unit
    • Results stored on the unit and reported in Studio
    Across the team

    One suite across targets

A test written here also runs on the shared bench. Nothing is rewritten.

    • One suite for simulation, the desk unit and the rig
    • One report format for every run
    • Coverage counted across all targets
